Filipino Horror movies step another higher level as GMA Films‘ The Road takes the number 1 spot in iTune Top 25 Trailers beating the highly anticipated film, The Avengers starting 5:00 pm Los Angeles time (April 23) or 8:00 am in Manila (April 24).
After Sigaw (Adapted in Hollywood film “The Echo“), another horror movie from the Philippines, The Road which was helmed by Yam Laranas breaks into Hollywood market and considered and believed to be the first Filipino movie ever to have a commercial screening and release in Northern America. The international producers believed that the movie as a whole will attract movie-goers and decided not be dubbed and adapted and be released with all its elements. This means that foreign viewers will hear the Filipino language and subtitles are available on the screen.
Currently, the said movie is on the 3rd spot in iTunes beating again The Avengers and the newly release Marley.
The film received high praises from different international movie critics even though it is not a big hit in the Philippines and relatively considered as a Box Office Bomb. (Note Philippines Box Office Trends for success are genre of RomCom and Horror/Thriller)
However, netizens response with different views. A number of them favors for the film.
i wonder why there’s always a fight between abs and gma fans? can we not be happy of the success of our fellowmen? why so fanatic? it doesn’t bring good to everyone. rather than fighting of useless thing, why not support each other. the success of one is the success of all. crab mentality is prevalent in here. so i hope we should educate ourselves by eradicating it.
“The Road” is a great example of a thriller-suspense filled, psychologically film that you should watch. I can say that there is this mystery that we as the viewers have to figure out. This movie provides a totally different approach to a horror-thriller-crime genre. What’s amazing about this movie is that it lets you know who is this killer right from the start, but then, here’s the twist – what if what you’re seeing 10 years ago is totally different now?
However, there are bad comments with regards to the movie title as it confused some movie enthusiasts and most of them claim that The Road starring Viggo Mortenses (Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings) could sue The Road (Philippines) for copy rights of the title.
F*** this movie, the original ‘The Road’ with Viggo Mortensen will always be the best.
BS.so Wrong Turn is now The Road. Those who made The Road with Viggo Mortensen should sue these 2012 pricks.
Dude, I thought the same thing… The road is maybe the best post-apocalyptic movie ever and what is this crap! They should rename it. NOW!
Good job on the title of the movie.(Irony) seeing how obscure this movie will be anyone that searches for it will come upon not just one Viggo Mortensen movie but two. The Road (2009) and On The Road (2012)
What?! Isn’t this title copy-righted by that (awesome) apocalypse movie? Anyways, this looks prettttyy crazy lol!
“The Road” stars Marvin Agustin, Rhian Ramos, Carmina Villaroel, Derrick Monasterio, Barbie Forteza, Lexi Fernandez, TJ Trinidad, Alden Richards and Louise delos Reyes, and it will be distributed in US and Canada by the Los Angeles-based Freestyle Releasing company.
It will have a red-carpet gala premiere at the Mann Chinese theater in Los Angeles on May 9 and beginning May 11, it will hit at least 50 theaters in Northern America and in selected theaters in Singapore beginning May 15.
