‘One More Try’ Trailer Invites Comparison to 2008 Chinese Film ‘In Love We Trust’

Did MMFF 2012 entry One More Try copied the concept, theme and premise of highly acclaimed Chinese Film In Love We Trust?

The full trailer for Star Cinema’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry “One More Try” spells out the film’s plot in clear dramatic detail.

Two married couples — Angel Locsin and Zanjoe Marudo in Baguio; and Angelica Panganiban and Dingdong Dantes in Manila — live separate lives in domestic bliss.

The conflict is quickly laid bare. Angel and Dingdong had a brief romance five years ago. Now she comes to tell him that her son is his. And she needs his help because their son is sick.

The boy is dying of leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. The surefire way is to get the bone marrow from a sibling.

Angel needs Dingdong to impregnate her again for the sake of their son. Naturally, the situation throws both their marriages in disarray.

Now watch the trailer below of the Chinese film “In Love We Trust”, which premiered at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival in 2008.

The film is stark, not glossy like “One More Try”, and the lead actors are not quite as attractive.

But the premise — a child’s need for a bone marrow transplant forces a former couple to procreate and put their marriages in grave risk — seems essentially the same.

Watch the trailers below and you decide if One More Try copied In Love We Trust!
