Mitoy Yonting, the 42-year-old veteran band vocalist, was named the first-ever winner of “The Voice of the Philippines” on Sunday during the hit TV show’s grand finale at Resorts World Manila.
Yonting, a member of Team Lea, received 57.65% of the votes to beat Team Sarah’s Klarisse de Guzman as the two artists faced off for a final showdown after garnering the highest percentage of text and online votes plus the iTunes and truetone downloads.
Before the poll for the top two artists opened, their individual scores were reset back to zero. In the end, the artist who got the higher percentage of public votes was named the winner of “The Voice of the Philippines.”
Team Bamboo‘s Myk Perez and Team Apl’s Janice Javier were the other two contestants in the Top 4 in the much-awaited finale of ABS- CBN’s hit talent search.
“Salamat sa inyong lahat,” an emotional Yonting told the ecstatic crowd before doing a reprise of his Top 2 performance of The Beatles’ “Help.”
Before he was announced as the first winner of the local version of “The Voice,” his coach Lea Salonga thanked Yonting for giving her the opportunity to help “someone as gifted, as talented and as amazing as you.”
“Maraming salamat sa pagpili, for letting me into your heart and for allowing me to help you along this journey,” she said. “Sana in the rest of your journey, you will allow me to look over your shoulder and watch over you.”
OUR HONEST OPINION ON MITOY’S WIN
Our first reaction after the announcement was ‘HELL NO’!
Well, honestly speaking, the remaining four are not even our bets, but notably Klarisse de Guzman and Myk Perez have big potentials in the music industry as a recording artist who would like to go far away places in the music arena due time! So why the majority of the public viewers voted for Mitoy? Well, that’s their right, we can’t complain but we can impart our own view points right?
Our eyes have been focusing on Sarah Geronimo‘s contender Morisette Amon where we can see the full package as an artist – the look, the angs, the aura, the power and of course the voice. Unfortunately she did not make it to the finals!
With Mitoy as the grand winner, people are now in arguments whether he deserves the recognition or not! Well, lets just see! But honestly, we can forecast that Mitoy will be another round of Maasinhon Trio, Marcelito Pomoy, Frenchy Dy and Roel Manlangit whose stars are shining like an off-on fluorescent lamp in a haunted house! A star that fades away in due time!
